Ebiz, creator of the Kowli music series, Baltimore

Many of you know that I have spent considerable effort splitting time between Baltimore and DC for most of the re-occurring gigs. In fact, my popular monthly Lust4Life is returning to Baltimore starting in September–more on that another time. The funny thing is that I’m not the only person who does this. There are a number of notable deejays, music producers, musicians, and bands that have this long-standing habit among the current generation. I am unsure of the popularity of the habit among those that proceeded us.

Some of those groups and people from House Music specifically include, ForQuarters, many of the regulars of the Taxlo parties and affiliated crews, Deep Sugar, to name a few. The proximity of the cities–about 45 miles apart–does make this relatively easy. Crews and individuals can commonly be seen at another’s party, not playing, just chillin’ and enjoying the vibe.

With these thoughts in mind, I have invited out Ebiz to join me Thursday at Gazuza Lounge. And then I join him next week for Kowli in Baltimore. I guess you can call this series a Home-and-Home set.

The boogie of Riot Now

Quite a way to open a conversation, let alone call oneself. I haven’t asked the question of him of how he arrived at the name “Riot Now”, but it is certainly on my list.

Riot Now will be joining me for the July 21st installment of ScandalDC Thursday’s at Gazuza Lounge.

The New York-born DJ has been making a name for himself in the Boston area for the last couple of years. Co-creator and resident DJ of Unprotected Decks (ongoing electronic night in Boston), Riot Now is bringing soulful & sizzling synths to the nation’s capitol with funky bass lines to move your hips. His all-vinyl sets include deep house, tech, electro and tribal house. Riot Now has his finger to the pulse of what makes you move.

Well! All I know is this should certainly be an interesting night. We are both planning some extra special vinyl only selections. I’m sure that will add a little more spice to an already delicious pot of music.

ScandalDC Thursdays at Gazuza

You know what they say, right?  ’Where there is fire, there is smoke!’  Or maybe I have that backwards.  Or maybe it’s all smoke.  But no matter.  Let’s work this out and you will see what I’m talking about.

The fire starts Thursday night with plenty of smoke.  DJ FugAmI kicks off the weekend early (normal for DC actually) with Thursday :: Sushi, Hookah, Cocktails, House music at Gazuza Lounge.  He will also be providing the musical libations for a Hookah MeetUp.  It is likely to be packed house.

Where there is smoke, there is fire!

Then FugAmI returns with the rest of the ScandalDC crew Saturday night for Foundation :: Up In Smoke.  Foundation got in a tad bit of trouble in the neighborhood last month–good kind of bad trouble–and we plan to keep it going this month.  We have invited in Christauff (www.christauff.com) to bring his Tech minded sounds to the floor.  Get your dancing shoes on.  You are going to need them.

June is not here yet, but you could not tell by the day time temperatures in the Washington DC and Baltimore metro areas. So let’s just say that summer is already here. Likewise we are bringing the heat for ScandalDC’s weekly party, Thursday.

We are bringing summer heat early!

Isn’t Spring the ultimate refresh? The rain comes and starts to wash in changes, flowers start to sprout, things thaw and turn green, short skirts come out…

Anyway, we are doing our own refresh here at mGrooves. We have added to and update our shop including adding the option to customize further our custom gear. Check out the new Got Beats Lo Keds. 801photography.net artists Tunde has collaborated with us in making the ladies version. Win a free pair by subscribing to this blog. Just give us your name and email address in the boxes in the right sidebar.

Also, we have been making changes to the website. We will be launching a second version of mGrooves logo, changing the booking and contact section to go directly through standard methods like email, texting, or phone, and adding direct access to our videos on Youtube to name a few changes. We want add to the site’s fun factor and wow factor.

On Stylo’s Facebook fanpage, we have added a Bandpage layout by Rootmusic. A very nice plug-in I must say. If they make a wordpress widget, that will likely be installed soon as well. By the way, here is one of the few places that you can get a glimpse of the new mGrooves logo.

I know, I know. Change is hard. But isn’t this what the world does to us every year with the change of seasons? What do you think of the changes?
