Bassment Cookin’

And so, some mad cooking has been going on.

Mad cookin'

Some mad cookin' has been going on in Da Bassment

This particular piece is carved out of some additional ingredients including a bassline, keys, rhythm and synths by me.  The idea is to have something light and spring or summer like with a little bit of bounce…

WMC–Back at Future Classics

Torn Edges 1

As some of you know the dates for the Winter Music Conference 2012 have been announced.  mGrooves and Stylo are very excited about this.  Why?  With all the changes in the dates surrounding the entire WMC vs. Ultra thing, frankly we were getting a bit tired of it all.

Lucky enough, we have already got one confirmation earlier this week.  Stylo and mGrooves will be back at the Future Classics party, the same that featured such artists as Studio Apartment, Crystal Waters, The Basement Boys, and Danny Tenaglia.  We hope you will be joining us at this mid-week pool-side party in Miami Beach.  Already there are some surprises in store!  So get ready!  The party is really is a blast!

As far as local events go (DC and Baltimore) we are on a short hiatus until next week when ScandalDC Thursday will return, Foundation (Dec 3rd), and Lust4Life (Dec 9th).

We are busy working on several projects with other emerging artists from across the globe.  In addition, work has started on Stylo’s original works inspired from his trip to central Europe over the summer.

mGrooves and Stylo would like to extend a word of thanks to all that have given their support over the past year, from both new and old friends.  mGrooves has now had the privilege to survive since 2005 and Stylo much longer because you all continue to give and share.  We are greatly appreciative of your generosity, with your time and your love.  We are here for the long haul, intent to continue to deliver fun parties, fun and interesting music, and quality entertainment.

We hope to see you on the dance floor soon!

Lust4Life! Donate To A Good Cause

So we are almost to the next episode of Lust4Life that happens to coincide with Scorpio Tryst.  You old heads know, however many new fans may not realize that Lust4Life got its start as a charity event.  It was a way to give back to the victims of the Katrina disaster.  It was a wild Fat Tuesday night as there ever was outside of New Orleans.  We then grew into a monthly where along the way we would periodically support different charitable organizations and causes.

Which now brings us to the up coming L4L.  I am happy to announce that we will be raising dollars to support the research of the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Lust4Life, Scorpio Tryst 8

Support LLS

How did this come about? Quite simply actually.  I recently received an email from a friend of mine, Marie, who is going to participate in the Miami Half Marathon for LLS. She recently loss her father in the fight against this type of cancer.  As you can imagine, this campaign is quite personal for her.  Things that are important to good friends are important to us too, yes?

So with the help of our mutual friends at Smalltimore Events, we have decided to make this Lust4Life more than just a Scorpio Birthday party.  We are giving back.

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for info about cool silent auction items.  Of course the real-simple donation route will be available too.  Hopefully, we all will ‘pay it forward’ with ones, fives, tens, or whatever; in our drive to give back while having fun.

Remember, we already have a special secret guest for the Nov 11th Lust4Life.

As for this Scorpio, I don’t want presents.  I want your presence…

Lust4Life Scorpio Tryst 8, baby!!!

Lust4Life re-launches

Lust4Life :: Not A Comeback feat. Calvin Garner

Remember, packing 200 people into a small room and sweating out the night? Remember the smallish corner bar that seem to always have the hottest music around? Remember saying to people that you never know who you were going to run into or what would happened at Lust4Life??

We have re-launched that intimate feeling, this time at Dionysus. The same party that had the luck to host such House music legends like John “Julius” Knight and the sublime like DC’s Jackie O–who by the way is returning to Lust4Life October 9–is regular again and stands poised to bring the same type of excitement, plus some, to the Mt Vernon area of Baltimore.

One of the other reasons why we are excited about Dionysus (8 E Preston St) is that it is so close to everywhere because of access to transit options. If you are already in Baltimore, there is the Downtown Circulator FREE bus service that can get you there from most of the inner-city neighborhoods, the light rail for those who might be farther out, and for those who are traveling from DC, Philly, or NYC, Penn Station. Never before has Lust4Life been so accessible.

And finally the top reasons is the music people we will be bringing through. We are aiming to top the talent we brought in before, yet, not forgetting our hometown peeps. In this vein the first show will be an all-Baltimore affair with guest DJ Calvin Garner.

See you Friday night, Sept 9 at Dionysus!

This Could Have Been An Ominous Sign

This could have been nasty indeed.

I run in to one of my favorite coffee shops to fill my favorite cup. While I’m waiting patiently, I hear this crash; something just fell. I twisted my face in a grimace because I knew what it had to be. It was it my mGrooves coffee cup like the one pictured here.

My personal cup like this took a dive this morning. RIP

The young barista was flush with apologies. I felt bad for her and the way her morning seemed to be going than sadness over my cup.  And to be sure, I was disappointed that my cup had been broken. But what worried more is that my day was also getting off to a bad start as this young woman’s day had.

But so far so good. And because of this, I am offer the same travel cup or its Lust4Life version 50% off markup. Both of these cups feature a insulated stainless steel inside with a ceramic outside good for both hot and cold drinks. Get them fast, because as usual, these offers will not last.

Re-Arranged

As some of you know, other parts of our home are going through quite the dramatic transformation. The studio has as well.

We have re-arranged the furniture and will be adding some new paint soon. So there may be a hiatus of new beats. Trust me though, the wait will be worth it.

Remix, Reboot?

Remix, Reboot?

Change will come...

So here we are at mGrooves plotting the next steps. I was all ready to ramp up some more remixes, edits, etc and all the while concocting changes to this blog space, the attached websites, and mulling the wonderful changes in my personal life.  And then BOOM!

Much of it came falling apart…

I, along with many of us fans of electronic music, have witnessed the likely passing of a local Baltimore iconic landmark, Shorty’s, and thus the loss of the monthly home of Lust4Life for the past 3 years; and the strange halting of ORG after what seem a steady and progressive rise.  In short, the passing of older and newer.  This has been coupled with the destructive hacking of mGrooves and Lust4Life that rendered the website nearly unusable.

So now the re-arranging takes on a whole new scope.  And that is quite alright, albeit initially frustrating.  It now presents an opportunity to fix some tricky issues and to re-emerge wearing brand new clothes.  As the Semisonic song lyric goes in Closing Time, “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end…”

With that idea, this is step one of an end of an older beginning and the beginning of some future end.  The blog has been reformulated.  I have used some of the old categories, In The Lab, Say What?, Where Ya At?, and Bleeding Ink.  But a new category has been added, BSB – Brand Spankin’ Bought.

Step two will be to integrate podcasts with this blog, thereby making them more accessible. Video podcasts (e.g. Scandal Guerrilla Video) will also be carried through this channel.  Other syndication will occur through Facebook and other public blog rolls.  Some cross publication between this blog and other blogs will occur as well.

Step three will be the launch of Lust4Life as a monthly podcast.  Will we be searching for a new home for the monthly?  Absolutely!  In fact the search has already begun.  In the mean time, you can still hear some of your favorite Lust4Life guest deejays along with some new peeps too.

Then we will be turning our attention to the over all websites of mGrooves and Lust4Life, and our email lists.  There will also be changes made to our mGrooves and Lust4Life merchandise store.  But stay tuned for those changes.  They will all be announced through this space.

All in all, we still want to bring you the best in high quality electronic music, parties, and people.  We see every set back as an opportunity to rise again and shine like a phoenix.

Feel free to comment and to send me feed back.
