Starry Nights

If you live in the northern hemisphere, did you catch the sky last week? It was a sky on which dreams are made, a sky that gets women and men to wax poetic, a sky on which wishes are made, a sky in which grand predictions are made.

I don’t know if grand predictions, poetry, or dreams were in that sky. However, a few wishes might have been there; maybe one for each of the planets that aligned and the moon. Much like how planets seem to move across the sky, sometimes seemingly together, sometimes independently, in a glorious dance. So dance with me, wish with me, maybe dream with me… Dream and wishes sometimes come true.

Are You KiNK-y?

I think I am.  Ha!  What do I mean?  Only that I’m really digging everything this guy touches.

KiNK (Strahil Velchev) hails from Bulgaria.  He has a beautifully unique way he puts together some of his music using sequencers, loop players, and often recording to reel-to-reel tape.  Yep, un-real!  In my DJ sets lately I have been a big fan of the tune Trevoga (Original) (sample: Init2gether Mix, @ 7:39 position).  The drum break down is just off-the-chain hot!  You think I’m kidding?  Drop that track with a whole bunch of Latin women (or women who love Latin music) and just watch all the shaking that goes explodes on the dance floor.  And speaking of break downs, tunes of often vocal mate, Rachel Row, are just as killer.  Check the tune Pussy for an example. (Yeah, I wrote that word–so sue me. Ladies if you take the time to listen to the song you will find out it’s has a very positive vibe…)

Here is a recent post of a KiNK remix on Soundcloud that features Ms Row.

So yeah, I’m KiNK-y.  I just aspire to lay down beats as hot as this guy does.  Are you KiNK-y?  If so, about what/who?

Life is full of change. We might try to manage it, however it can not be stopped. One of the things that can make transitions easier is collaborators, ‘partners-in-crime’, etc. We are all in it together…

BSB – A KiNK-y Movement?!

Starting fire with KiNK

A theme that seems to replay itself over to over to me in this biz of deejays, producers, musicians/artists, and the buying public, is music is a very personal thing. Each has her or his own opinion about what something means and how it should be consumed. But in reality, after anything is released into the ‘wild’, it is on its own. One cannot predict how another will be touched by it, or when they might be touch by it–many times it may take on different meanings or a different shade as time passes.

Much of this could be said about Reflections001 by KiNK for as it applies to me. When I originally bought the collection, it struck me in a total different way than it does now. Did the music change? No. But I experienced some unforeseen things including surprise (negative), hurt, and heartbreak. I also experienced grief, more surprise (positive), and hope. My sound track on the journey–as my Android mp3 player was on shuffle play–was often times Reflections001.

Of course there are obvious emotions that some of the songs should evoke, like the righteous indignation of “Pussy”, or the edgy hip-hop street tinged “Honey Beats”. But then there are more androgynous flavors of songs like “Mood” and “Fish Feeling”. I had different reactions to those, not because of the music, but more because of what I was going through when I listened to them.

One thing is definite–there is something for almost everyone who is a fan of Electronic (EDM), House, Dance, Nu-disco, and/or Hip-hop in this collection.
