I Mean Real Peace, Not Metta World Peace

Riot Now

OMG... A Riot!

Did you see that craziness recently with Ron Artest, I mean Metta World Peace?  This dude who was one of the escalators in the fight a few years ago that broke out in the Palace in Auburn Hills Michigan, the home of the Detroit Pistons was up to his old out-of-control self.  This time it was in a game between the storied LA Lakers and the super upstarts OKC Thunder.  Look if you want the play by play, there is plenty all over the ‘net.  I’m not going to give it any more attention but to say, we want to knock you out but not in that way.

So how do we want to knock you out? By re-introducing Riot Now to a ScandalDC show on Cinco de Mayo!  That’s right boys and girls.  The 5th of May is complete with a Riot.  Hahahaha.  Riot Now and I have killed some sets on Thursday night.  Now we are one-upping the game by bringing him out on a weekend with the rest of the ScandalDC crew.  And we know our Gazuza crowd and many more across the DMV will love, love, love this!  If you think I’m kidding just get a load of this DJ set from him…

Your house. Our house. Riot’s house…

Even though a Riot is in the place, we are all love, peace, House music…

Foundation 14: Cinco de Mayo

Rockin’ DC’s Gazuza Lounge

Foundation 13: Anniversary Edition

We celebrate our time at Gazuza Lounge and the branching out of some of our own.

Yep, the ScandalDC crew has been at it for quite a while, since 2008 to be exact.  A feat that is not easy in such a fast pace, always changing environment such as electronic dance music. In fact, this anniversary is coming on the heals of changes to the current makeup of ScandalDC.

Two members of ScandalDC, Kochi and Sean, have decided to strike out on their own and focus on their partnership project called Ink House. Sean, a.k.a. DJ iLLogic said, “We are incredibly grateful for the opportunities that Scandal has allowed us and have enjoyed DJing with you guys.” I agree with ScandalDC founder, Mike a.k.a. DJ FugAmI in his response, “While it saddens me to see you guys go, I truly understand your decision and will continue to be a fan and supporter of iNK House.” We are family and we have enjoyed some tremendous events together as ScandalDC over the years.

ScandalDC will continue as just a two person crew for a short while. And many of you already know that I am focusing on new music production than ever before. Any fears of us leaving the scene should be put aside immediately.

Hence, we are inviting all of ScandalDC and Ink House fans to come out, to wish Ink House well, and to thank Gazuza for allowing ScandalDC to host so many successful parties in what is still one of the best lounges in the area. Saturday April 7th is a celebration of new beginnings!

Get Down With The Boogie

UPDATED: An unforeseen issue an arisen and Ken will not be performing tonight. The entire ScandalDC crew will still be laying down some hot beats for the DMV

He’s back! (Sort of.) Ken Christensen, or Ken ECB as in East Coast Boogiemen, is back in DC.

After spending several years literally bumpin’ around the country and the globe, I run into him at a friends birthday party that featured the legendary Stephanie Cooke’s first show eva (ever) in DC. He apparently spent some time with Chicago as his home base. Home, sweet, home, DC again.

Foundation 12 featuring Ken ECB Christensen

Foundation 12 featuring Ken ECB Christensen

Oftentimes called an ‘underground pop artist’, Ken has rocked more than just clubs. He has moved people in a variety of venues and places, nightlife to galleries. His production work can be found on such international heavy-weights like Ministry of Sound (UK), Om (SF), Robsoul (FR), and Alphabet Music (Chicago). And he doesn’t just do House. His Downtempo sets are just as legendary.

Is ECB back? How about you ask him yourself. We are fortunate to have Ken join myself and the entire ScandalDC crew for Foundation 12, March 3rd.

What’s your favorite ECB, Ken, or Juan Zapata track or mix?

Back In The Saddle? Riot Now + ScandalDC Thursdays = Mad Fun

Rumor has it that Riot Now was out of the ‘game.’  I could not substantiate the rumor.  Yet, it still came a surprise to me that Riot Now was willing to come out again to play some records for my turn at the ScandalDC Thursdays at Gazuza.  Our last foray behind the decks together was nothing but fun.

Riot Now

He and I get to throw down again for ScandalDC Thursday at Gazuza

Similar to last time, Riot Now is prepare a delightful set of sound by way of an all vinyl set.  The only one who will be using electronics is me.  However, not to be undone, I do plan to bring out some classics in my vinyl collection. This is not a pissing match though–more, it is to prepare for another likely lively tag-team DJ set as we also did the last time we were able to play at the same place.

Here is mix from Riot Now and I from last summer: The Boogie

Tell me… who are some of your surprise combined DJ sets that you have had the pleasure of hearing, or in the case of you other DJs that you have performed with?

Anniething Goes To Foundation

DJ vANNIEty Kills

With her, just about Anniething Goes...

Here I go with another double in DC.  Thursday it is my turn up with ScandalDC’s Thursday at Gazuza, our weekly series.  I have some sleepers that I’ll be playing for you.  So start your weekend with me.

And make sure you return on Saturday night for Foundation 9.  This time, our monthly features DJ vANNIEty Kills.  Annie is a master of beats, spanning sets from House to Drum and Bass.  She has shared the stage with legends such as LTJ Bukem at U Street Music Hall and played to the auditory delights of Donovan House roof top affairs.

As her bio points out, “As part of a burgeoning class of top gay and lesbian DJs in the capital city who attract praise from all social avenues, vANNIEty Kills is helping bridge gaps, open doors, and unify the city in the gospel of Parliament and Funkadelic, “One Nation Under a Groove.”"

Riot Now!

Riot Now

The boogie of Riot Now

Quite a way to open a conversation, let alone call oneself. I haven’t asked the question of him of how he arrived at the name “Riot Now”, but it is certainly on my list.

Riot Now will be joining me for the July 21st installment of ScandalDC Thursday’s at Gazuza Lounge.

From Riot’s press release:
The New York-born DJ has been making a name for himself in the Boston area for the last couple of years. Co-creator and resident DJ of Unprotected Decks (ongoing electronic night in Boston), Riot Now is bringing soulful & sizzling synths to the nation’s capitol with funky bass lines to move your hips. His all-vinyl sets include deep house, tech, electro and tribal house. Riot Now has his finger to the pulse of what makes you move.

Well! All I know is this should certainly be an interesting night. We are both planning some extra special vinyl only selections. I’m sure that will add a little more spice to an already delicious pot of music.

See you Thursday night DC.

All On A Single Night

Foundation Gazuza All Stars

Yep, that is what we are doing. We are gathering Gazuza’s prime talent, and putting it all on a single night.

While most ScandalDC and mGrooves fans are familiar with Fugami, Kochi, and Stylo, we wanted to test the DC gods and see what would happened if we added the prime selector from Gazuza Fridays on top of the gravity of having the entire Scandal crew active on the same night. I mean, it usually only in the big spaces that you can find the 3 of us tagging music all at the same time, right?

We have even invoked the DC ‘stars and bars’ flag in the design of our flier. So if you hear about a fire, ‘we don’t need no water. Let the…” Well you get the idea.

Sammy Arsam Khosh

Searching for the perfect beat?

Sammy Arsam Khosh is indeed a prime selector. Probably most noted with his excellent work with the Empresarios, his music and beats are delightful fusion of so many influences it is hard to describe. It just has to be experienced. He has plenty of solo production credit to his resume as well. Read more about Sammy here.

This is why we are calling this All Stars… Don’t miss it!
