Wow! Where has the summer gone? We have definitely come into the final chapters for the Oh-eleven summer season; especially for all you young and not so young school kiddies. Yeah, bitter sweet, we know.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t mean we all have to be sad. The summer is still in full swing. So this is what we are going to do.

First, we should introduce you to iLLogic, AKA Mr Sean L to some of you peeps. This solid music maestro has been brought to our ScandalDC crew by the one and only DJ Kochi. If you have had the privilege to catch the inaugural iNKHouse show featuring Dimitri Max and Rick of Corduroy Mavericks, or any of the ScandalDC Thursdays at Gazuza, you have seen these two (Kochi and iLLogic) in action. iLLogic brings A-game every night (or day). He will be solo this Thursday for ScandalDC.

Then Saturday we reconvene for Foundation :: 5. This month we are honored to be hosting for the incomparable Juan Zapata. This dude has been blowing people up for more than a ‘minute’ along with the rest of his crew in ELM (Everybody Loves Music). If you really don’t know, don’t just ask somebody… Show your face in the place. The details of when and where are on the flyer above.

The boogie of Riot Now

Quite a way to open a conversation, let alone call oneself. I haven’t asked the question of him of how he arrived at the name “Riot Now”, but it is certainly on my list.

Riot Now will be joining me for the July 21st installment of ScandalDC Thursday’s at Gazuza Lounge.

The New York-born DJ has been making a name for himself in the Boston area for the last couple of years. Co-creator and resident DJ of Unprotected Decks (ongoing electronic night in Boston), Riot Now is bringing soulful & sizzling synths to the nation’s capitol with funky bass lines to move your hips. His all-vinyl sets include deep house, tech, electro and tribal house. Riot Now has his finger to the pulse of what makes you move.

Well! All I know is this should certainly be an interesting night. We are both planning some extra special vinyl only selections. I’m sure that will add a little more spice to an already delicious pot of music.

Music mixes and the like:

A friend of mine was looking for new places to mine music.

All I got to say is… “yeah-yeah”

Mining is an art more than a science. Mining can help shape, describe, and also make your sound unique. No two people hear the same song quite exactly the same way.

By the way, new Anda Adam remix in a day or two.  And I’ll be in Budapest in less than a week.

I have been asked to deejay the private party launch of Copper Kitchen which features the food artistry of Chef Kevin Miller.

Some of you might recognize Mr Miller one of the co-owners of the acclaimed former restaurant, Ixia. Kevin has also written a book on food styling and has “prepared meals for such dignitaries as President and Mrs. Ford, former Vice President Dan Quayle and his wife, and Senator Bob Dole.”–About Chef Kevin Miller This latest project is a collaboration with Widespread Concierge Services.

Likely, I’ll be feeding up a diet of Latin, Afrobeat, and other sultry sounds…

I have a deejay set for you this Thursday at Gazuza along with some new remixes fresh from my studio.

ScandalDC Thursdays at Gazuza

You know what they say, right?  ’Where there is fire, there is smoke!’  Or maybe I have that backwards.  Or maybe it’s all smoke.  But no matter.  Let’s work this out and you will see what I’m talking about.

The fire starts Thursday night with plenty of smoke.  DJ FugAmI kicks off the weekend early (normal for DC actually) with Thursday :: Sushi, Hookah, Cocktails, House music at Gazuza Lounge.  He will also be providing the musical libations for a Hookah MeetUp.  It is likely to be packed house.

Where there is smoke, there is fire!

Then FugAmI returns with the rest of the ScandalDC crew Saturday night for Foundation :: Up In Smoke.  Foundation got in a tad bit of trouble in the neighborhood last month–good kind of bad trouble–and we plan to keep it going this month.  We have invited in Christauff (www.christauff.com) to bring his Tech minded sounds to the floor.  Get your dancing shoes on.  You are going to need them.

June is not here yet, but you could not tell by the day time temperatures in the Washington DC and Baltimore metro areas. So let’s just say that summer is already here. Likewise we are bringing the heat for ScandalDC’s weekly party, Thursday.

We are bringing summer heat early!

Isn’t Spring the ultimate refresh? The rain comes and starts to wash in changes, flowers start to sprout, things thaw and turn green, short skirts come out…

Anyway, we are doing our own refresh here at mGrooves. We have added to and update our shop including adding the option to customize further our custom gear. Check out the new Got Beats Lo Keds. 801photography.net artists Tunde has collaborated with us in making the ladies version. Win a free pair by subscribing to this blog. Just give us your name and email address in the boxes in the right sidebar.

Also, we have been making changes to the website. We will be launching a second version of mGrooves logo, changing the booking and contact section to go directly through standard methods like email, texting, or phone, and adding direct access to our videos on Youtube to name a few changes. We want add to the site’s fun factor and wow factor.

On Stylo’s Facebook fanpage, we have added a Bandpage layout by Rootmusic. A very nice plug-in I must say. If they make a wordpress widget, that will likely be installed soon as well. By the way, here is one of the few places that you can get a glimpse of the new mGrooves logo.

I know, I know. Change is hard. But isn’t this what the world does to us every year with the change of seasons? What do you think of the changes?

At the May 12 Scandal Thursday, I’ll be holding it down. I’ll be sure to get your booty shakin’ and your heads to bop.  Look for new remixes from my own studio too. See…there are refreshin’ going on all over the place…

Yep, that is what we are doing. We are gathering Gazuza’s prime talent, and putting it all on a single night.

While most ScandalDC and mGrooves fans are familiar with Fugami, Kochi, and Stylo, we wanted to test the DC gods and see what would happened if we added the prime selector from Gazuza Fridays on top of the gravity of having the entire Scandal crew active on the same night. I mean, it usually only in the big spaces that you can find the 3 of us tagging music all at the same time, right?

We have even invoked the DC ‘stars and bars’ flag in the design of our flier. So if you hear about a fire, ‘we don’t need no water. Let the…” Well you get the idea.

Searching for the perfect beat?

Sammy Arsam Khosh is indeed a prime selector. Probably most noted with his excellent work with the Empresarios, his music and beats are delightful fusion of so many influences it is hard to describe. It just has to be experienced. He has plenty of solo production credit to his resume as well. Read more about Sammy here.
